Susan and Randy have been married since 1963. During most of this time we have lived in Susan’s home town of Wilmington, DE with brief excursions to Baton Rouge, LA, Budd Lake, NJ and Chicago, IL. Our son, Randy lives in Connecticut with his wife, Gwenna and our favorite grandson, Zach. Our daughter, Julie, lives in Lakewood, CO. Our children have sailed with us since they were small children and we have been blessed to have them and our daughter-in-law and grandson join us over the years on many of our sailing adventures.
Randy loves ocean sailing and now has over 50,000 ocean miles under his keel. Susan enjoys the calmer cruising sailing and usually leaves the ocean passages to Randy though she has done several overnight open water passages.
Randy has been sailing for more than fifty years, with experience in boats from twelve to nearly ninety feet in length. He was introduced to sailing in 1957, sailing MIT Tech Dinghies on the Charles River in Boston. Over the years he has sailed on a wide range of waters, including Swartswood Lake in New Jersey, up and down the Chesapeake Bay, the Aegean Sea, French Polynesia, Lake Geneva in Switzerland, the eastern part of the Caribbean Sea from the British Virgin Islands to Grenada, southern coast of Alaska, Lake Grapevine in Texas, Sydney Harbor in Australia, Lake Pontchatrain in Louisiana, the Mississippi Sound, the Gulf of Mexico, the Hawksbury River in Australia, the Gulf of Maine, Penobscot Bay, and Bra D’or Lake, Nova Scotia and the south coast of Newfoundland. He even spent an hour as helmsman on the replica of HMS Bounty under full sail through Sydney Harbor. He has a U.S Coastguard Masters license with a Near Coastal endorsement.
Currently we keep our 1995 Beneteau 445 at North Point Marina in Rock Hall, Md. We have done extensive cruising in the Eastern Caribbean having spent three seven-month periods cruising from the British Virgin Islands to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We have also enjoyed many weeks cruising in Maine. You can view Randy’s complete sailing resume by clicking on the RESUME button below.
